Gidon Shikler doesn't sound like he's from anywhere in particular — and that's the point. Born of Israeli and Dutch roots and raised on the sun-drenched coast of Southern California, he grew up absorbing everything: rock, jazz, soul, and the deep roots-rock reggae that would become his true north. The result is a sound that's unmistakably his own — golden, groove-heavy, and soulful enough to sit comfortably alongside the Jamaican legends who shaped him.

For a decade he earned it the old way, gigging through the clubs of Los Angeles, London, and Miami. It was there that his voice — warm, lush, unmistakably built for reggae — caught the ear of Beres Hammond, the genre's reigning “King of Lovers Rock.” What started as a week of jamming in Hammond's Miami hotel room turned into an invitation to Jamaica, where Gidon cut tracks with the island's most legendary players: Hammond himself at Harmony House, the rhythm section of Sly & Robbie at Anchor Studio, and Clive Hunt at House of Hits.

A true multi-instrumentalist, Gidon moves as easily between sax and guitar as he does percussion, drums, and bass — a rare versatility that shows up in every corner of his records. His breakout single “Call Me” earned daily rotation on IRIE FM, and his 2016 EP Rise found its way onto David Rodigan's BBC Radio 1Xtra and Dennis Bovell's Dub on Air. On stage, he's shared festival bills with Stephen Marley, Sly & Robbie, and Katchafire, taken home the 2012 Mountain Fair Songwriters Competition, and opened Jamaica's own “Reggae to Reggae” showcase.

These days, Gidon writes and produces from his Home Bass studio on the California coast, fronting his band at festivals and clubs across the state. Whether he's on a Kingston studio floor with reggae royalty or a stage in Hollywood, the through-line is the same: music that feels like sunshine, built by someone who's lived it from every angle.
